Golden West Sneaks Past East Los Angeles

Ryan Elliott’s infield single with two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth drove in John Pangelinan with the winning run as Golden West defeated host East Los Angeles, 7-6, Friday in a nonconference baseball game.

Riley Breckenridge had two hits and two runs batted in for the Golden West (11-13).

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Cypress 2, Orange Coast 0--Christy Megowan had two RBIs and Lise Delligata had two runs scored for Cypress (24-9-1, 10-2). Jamie Wilkes (13-4) pitched six innings, giving up three hits, striking out four and walking one for Cypress. Orange Coast is 3-20, 1-11.

Saddleback 4, Rancho Santiago 1--Treva Whitaker had an RBI single in first inning and walked with the bases loaded in the fifth as the Gauchos won. With the victory, Saddleback (20-6, 9-3) moves into a tie for second with Fullerton. Rancho Santiago is 20-14-1, 8-4.

In South Coast Conference men’s swimming:

Golden West sweeps--David Payot won the 200 freestyle (1:44.6) and 500 freestyle (4:47.4) for Golden West (4-0), which defeated Cerritos, 83-13, and defeated Pasadena, 36-15.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:

Orange Coast wins--Orange Coast posted its 105th consecutive dual-meet victory (its last loss coming in 1982) by defeating Saddleback, 173-125, and defeating Rancho Santiago, 189-30.

In South Coast Conference women’s swimming:

Golden West sweeps--June Mutrias, Nicole Ullrich and Tracy Howard each finished first in two events for Golden West (3-1), which defeated Cerritos, 87-35, and defeated Pasadena, 88-39.

Mt. San Antonio 86, Fullerton 37--Jamie Benson won three events, including the 50 freestyle in 25.79 for Fullerton (0-3 in conference).
