Valleywide : Tire Recycling Option Offered to Residents

Share

Offering a solution to the problem of illegal tire dumping throughout the city, the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation has begun a program to turn the unneeded rubber into carpet padding and doormats.

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday, used tires will be accepted at six recycling spots throughout the city.

In the San Fernando Valley, tires may be dropped off at two sites, 9701 San Fernando Road in Sun Valley and 8840 Vanalden Ave. in Northridge.

The program is only open to Los Angeles residents and a maximum of five tires will be accepted per visit.

Participants will be required to show proof of residence, including a driver’s license or utility bill.

Collected tires will be sent to a recycling company that will convert them to products such as hoses and doormats.
