A firefighter who suffered second-degree ankle burns when flames raced through a two-story home near Bel-Air Estates was in good condition Tuesday, a Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman said.

Forty firefighters were sent to the house in the 800 block of North Beverly Glen Drive at 11:49 p.m. Monday, said spokesman Jim Wells. The blaze was extinguished 39 minutes later.

The injured firefighter was treated at UCLA Medical Center, said another spokesman, Brian Humphrey. He was released in good condition.

The blaze burned through the roof of the house and damaged the exterior of a two-story house nearby, he said. The combined damage amount was estimated at $440,000.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, Humphrey said.
