Police Seek 3 Youths in Stabbing of Man

A 27-year-old Ventura man was in stable condition at Ventura County Medical Center on Saturday after three unidentified juveniles stabbed him several times on a west Ventura street Friday night, authorities said.

Steven Vickers walked into the Avenue Liquor Store at 580 Ventura Ave. at 9 p.m. Friday and told the clerk he had been attacked about a block and a half away near Barnett Street.

“He walked in and asked if I would call the paramedics,” said a store clerk, who declined to give her name. “He was holding his stomach and I could see blood.”

The clerk said she dialed 911 and then put Vickers, who is a regular customer, on the floor at the rear of the store while continuing to serve customers.

The clerk said that when she returned to see how Vickers was doing, she could see a gaping wound in his stomach, noted that his condition had worsened and called 911 again to urge paramedics to hurry.

Police are releasing little information about the attack, except to say they are seeking three male juveniles on suspicion of attempted murder.
