Girl Killed, 2 Hurt in Crash; Suspected Drunk Driver Held

A 14-year-old girl was killed and her brother and sister seriously injured after she borrowed a car on a lark from a family friend and was struck by a suspected drunk driver.

Police said the girl apparently persuaded an 18-year-old friend to let her borrow his car, then set out from her home to drive around the block. The girl’s 17-year-old sister was in the passenger seat and their 4-year-old brother was in the back, police said.

The identities of the victims and the man who struck their car were not available late Saturday.

Lt. Dave Petko said the driver of the second car was intoxicated and driving on a revoked license. Although police are not yet certain who was at fault in the incident, Petko said it is likely that the man will be booked for manslaughter.
