Valleywide : Cooler Temperatures Expected This Week

Share

San Fernando Valley weather will be cooling off slowly this week after a warm weekend, weather forecasters said Sunday, caused by unseasonable Santa Ana winds.

“Usually we don’t get that in the spring,” said Dennis Tussey, a spokesman for the National Weather Service in Oxnard. The Santa Anas--which are warm, dry winds blowing from inland areas--are more likely in late summer and autumn. But a high-pressure system that moved into the area Thursday allowed for a mild Santa Ana effect, Tussey said.

The warm winds pushed temperatures in some areas into the 90s during the weekend. But a low-pressure system moving into the area today will have a cooling effect this week.

“There could be patchy low clouds and fog near the coast,” Tussey said. A low-pressure system can bring rain, but forecasters are not ready to include precipitation in their predictions. If we do get some rain, it would not arrive until Wednesday or Thursday.

Temperatures throughout the Valley today will be in the low 80s.
