James V. Adams, superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Sacramento, has been named president of Chaminade College Preparatory, which has a middle school in Chatsworth and a high school in West Hills.

Chaminade is a 44-year-old, coeducational school run by the Marianist Fathers and Brothers, a Roman Catholic religious order. The school serves grades six through 12 and enrolls more than 1,600 students at the two campuses.

Adams, a Southern California native, will take over in July for Father Allen DeLong, who has been president of Chaminade for 10 years. DeLong will focus his energies on recruitment for the Pacific Province of the Marianist Order, according to a spokeswoman for the school.

As superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Sacramento, Adams supervised 55 schools. He was responsible for financial management, fund-raising, conflict resolution, public relations, administration and development of scholarship funds and the selection of secondary school principals.

Previously, Adams was principal of St. John Vianney School in Rancho Cordova, taught seventh through ninth grades in the Los Angeles Unified School District and for 10 years served as an adjunct professor at St. Mary’s College in Moraga.

In 1981, Adams was ordained a permanent deacon in the Catholic Church.
