Measures, Council Seats to Be Decided

Share

On the heels of the statewide primary two weeks ago, voters in a dozen Los Angeles-area communities will cast ballots once more today in a range of local political contests, from city council races to municipal policy measures.

In Los Angeles County, which posted a 34% turnout for the March 26 primary vote, council seats are open in cities from Lawndale to Lancaster. In Long Beach, political aspirants, including the grandson of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, are competing in three council districts. And in Santa Clarita, the city’s onetime mayor is attempting to rise from the ashes of her defeat at the polls two years ago.

In cities such as Arcadia and Culver City, voters will consider measures to allocate money for recycling or make some municipal jobs appointed posts. There are also elections today in Avalon, El Segundo and Sierra Madre.

In Bradbury and Vernon, which were scheduled to have elections, no balloting will be required because all of the candidates seeking office are unopposed, according to the clerks of those cities.
