Schools : Education news : Estancia Thespians Win 3 Top Awards

The awards that Estancia High School’s drama students brought home from the recent Chapman University Shakespeare Festival have been added to an already impressive collection.

Competing against thespians from 47 schools, Estancia students took three top honors.

For his performance as Malvolio in “Twelfth Night,” John Ermin was named best actor of the festival and won a scholarship to study theater at Chapman University.

Jason Orellano won the outstanding male monologue award with his portrayal of Dromio from “Comedy of Errors.”

The combined talents of Christa Knudsen, John Ermin, Eric Wayman, Chris Bright, Melissa Carnett and Matt Hos were given the outstanding scene performance award for a scene from “Twelfth Night.”

In addition to the honors garnered by students at the festival, Estancia’s drama teacher, Barbara Van Holt, was recognized for her longtime participation in the annual event.

Van Holt was honored as the only participant to take home a top award from the festival in each of the past 21 years.
