A house in Studio City and several buildings in a Newhall apartment complex caught fire Saturday, according to firefighters.

No one was injured in either fire and both are under investigation.

The Studio City fire started about 7:45 a.m. in a closet on the second floor of a house at 11380 Dona Teresa Drive, said Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Flames shot into the hallway and out the windows of the house, igniting the attic and roof, Humphrey said. Twenty firefighters extinguished the blaze in 16 minutes, he said.

The house, which was being remodeled, sustained about $40,000 in damage, he said.

In Newhall, several buildings in an apartment complex being renovated to repair earthquake damage caught fire about noon, fire officials said.

It took 75 firefighters more than an hour to control the blaze at 22900 Circle J Ranch Road, where a fire in the wall of one building spread into the attics of several others, said Battalion Chief Gene Wolfe of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Fire officials said a plumber accidentally started the fire. Dispatcher Diana Aronson said the plumber may have been using a blowtorch.
