Ex-Rosemead City Engineer to Head Rail Extension Project

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority hired a former Rosemead city engineer to head the Metro Red Line Eastside extension project.

Alfonso Rodriguez, who has more than 12 years’ experience in public works engineering and design projects, will oversee construction of the first segment of the eastern extension.

Rodriguez has project management experience in the public and private sector.

He was senior vice president for the architectural engineering firm Bernard, Johnson & Young, and was vice president of construction for Wildan & Associates, an engineering consulting firm.

He also performed civil and site development design work for the Metrolink construction program and was Rosemead city engineer from 1987 to 1995, when he was involved in municipal engineering and transportation issues.

The 3.75-mile route from Union Station to Boyle Heights will include four stations. The project construction cost is estimated at $980 million, with a projected completion date of 2002.
