From Associated Press

Greg Maddux was looking to escape a jam, the way he had so many times in the past. Instead, he gave up the first regular-season grand slam of his career.

Benito Santiago became the first player to hit a slam off Maddux (4-2) in 2,174 2/3 innings, connecting in the ninth for his second home run of the game off the Atlanta Braves ace to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-3 victory Friday night at Atlanta. The Phillies scored five times in the ninth off Maddux to win for the eighth time in nine games.

Maddux, a four-time Cy Young winner, gave up a slam in the 1989 NL playoffs to the San Francisco Giants’ Will Clark while pitching for the Chicago Cubs.
