JETHAWKS REPORT : He Managed Fine Just as a Coach

Share

Apparently, not every coach in the minors wants to manage.

Roger Hansen, the Seattle Mariners’ roving catching instructor, is visiting the JetHawks before he manages the Mariners’ short-season team in Everett, Wash.

Hansen, a coach in the organization since 1990, is not thrilled about his first managing assignment.

“I really enjoy doing the roving, but they needed to find someone [to manage],” said Hansen, who went to Rio Mesa High and is the son of Thousand Oaks High baseball Coach Jim Hansen.

Relief pitcher John Thompson has changed his number from 44 to 13. “They say 13 is unlucky, but I couldn’t be much unluckier, so I went for it,” said Thompson, who has an 8.31 earned-run average.
