A 14-year-old girl faces attempted murder charges for allegedly putting rubbing alcohol in her 9-month-old brother’s formula, police said Saturday.

Los Angeles police arrested the girl Friday evening at the family’s residence on the 1400 block of East 103rd Street in the Athens area of South Los Angeles, said Sgt. J.D. Allen.

The baby vomited the tainted formula and was taken to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, where he was in stable condition Saturday, Allen said.

The teenager had been asked to prepare the baby’s formula by the mother, who unwittingly fed the toxic mixture to the baby, authorities said.

Police said they do not know why the girl, who is in custody at a juvenile detention center, put the alcohol in the formula.
