Titans’ Kotsay on All-Time CWS Team
Cal State Fullerton outfielder Mark Kotsay has been named to an all-time College World Series baseball team. He was selected to an outfield that includes Barry Bonds and Dave Winfield.
The team was announced Sunday by the NCAA and the Omaha World-Herald, which sponsored the all-star team and published ballots in its newspaper. The 50th anniversary of the event is this year in Omaha.
Former USC Coach Rod Dedeaux was chosen as the top coach. The voters selected four other coaches who will be honored in Omaha, including Fullerton Coach Augie Garrido. Others to be recognized are the late Jim Brock of Arizona State, Cliff Gustafson of Texas and Gene Stephenson of Wichita State.
Designated hitter Pete Incaviglia, who starred for Oklahoma State in the 1980s, was the leading vote-getter among the more than 2,000 ballots cast. Kotsay was fifth.
Pitchers selected were Burt Hooton of Texas and Steve Arlin of Ohio State. The catcher was Mike Day of Oklahoma State.
Others selected were Robin Ventura, Oklahoma State, at third base; Will Clark, Mississippi State, first base; Todd Walker, Louisiana State, second base, and Spike Owen, Texas, shortstop.
