Old Socks: Painted portraits form a fraction of the memorabilia at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage’s new exhibit on Gen. George Custer (F1A). On view are Custer’s socks and a love poem written to his wife. The museum wants to “humanize” the Battle of Little Big Horn’s key figure.
Lettermen: The Four Postmen, a comic rock group, was born in the wardrobe room of CSUN’s drama department in 1989 (F1B). The group mostly shuns disgruntled postal worker jokes, but one of their songs ends: “I’m going back as a postman who just happens to be a human being and who just happens to have a big gun.”
Carried Away: The Topanga Post Office wants residents to be aware of thieves who have stolen checks and credit cards from 50 to 70 mailboxes. Postmaster Oscar Reynoso said rural areas are most susceptible because mailboxes tend to be far from homes. He recommends that customers “not leave their mail sitting in the box overnight.”
Home Team: At 32, he is one of the youngest college baseball coaches in the country (C6). And he’s the father of four. But CSUN’s Mike Batesole and his wife, Susie, want to have more Little Leaguers and could wind up fielding an entire team. “She likes having them around, so I’ll give her as many as she wants,” he said.
