BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : Stadium May Be Redone by 1998
Tony Tavares, new Angel president, said he is hopeful renovations to Anaheim Stadium can be completed in time for the opening of the 1998 season, a year earlier than originally planned.
“I see a wrecking ball hitting that wall in left field in October,” Tavares said of plans to remove outfield seats beyond the left-field fence. “The optimistic stuff I’m hearing is that the stadium will be ready and available for the start of 1998.”
Most of the remodeling is expected to take place during the off-season. However, Tavares said some light construction (on luxury suites, for example) will take place during the season.
