Fresno State 12, Texas Tech 5--Against the second-seeded Red Raiders (47-14), pitcher Jeff Weaver (12-5) came within one out of his ninth complete game of the year for the Bulldogs (36-22).

Oklahoma State 6, Arkansas 5--Danny DiPace’s fly ball to left field was dropped by the Razorbacks’ (39-19) Keith Bradley, sending home Jeff Guiel with the winning run in a victory for the Cowboys (42-19).

CENTRAL I

Sam Houston State 5, Miami 4--The sixth-seeded Bearkats scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to upset the Hurricanes (42-13), ranked second nationally by Baseball America and the top-seeded team in the regional at Austin, Texas.

Ron Thames went two for three with two runs scored, and his two-run single in the eighth inning was the key hit for Sam Houston (31-30).

Reliever Sean Riley (4-0) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the victory.

UCLA 5, Texas 2--A two-run homer by catcher Tim DeCinces broke an eighth-inning tie and helped the Bruins win.

With two outs and the count full against reliever Eric French (2-2), DeCinces drove the ball over the left-field wall. DeCinces’ 17th homer gave UCLA (34-26) a 4-2 lead.

Southwest Missouri State 5, Long Beach State 3--Jarrod Mays pitched a five-hitter to lead the victory over the second-seeded 49ers (34-25).

Mays (4-7) gave up two earned runs and struck out six for the fifth-seeded Bears (31-23).

Southwest Missouri, winner of its first tournament game in three appearances, took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the sixth inning against Long Beach reliever Steve Hueston (6-4).
