More Cool, Cloudy Mornings in Forecast

Mornings this week in the San Fernando Valley will be cool and cloudy, but without the drizzle that touched some spots on Memorial Day.

Afternoons will be slightly sunnier throughout the week, the National Weather Service said Monday.

“It looks like it’s going to be pretty much the same,” said Stuart Seto, a spokesman for the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

A deep marine layer--aided by an eddy of strong winds that formed around Catalina Island during the weekend--pushed into the Valley and brought low clouds and fog to the area. Temperatures were a couple of degrees cooler than normal for this time of year, Seto said.

Also helping push the cool, moist ocean air into the Valley was an imbalance of air pressure caused by a low pressure system east of the area and a high pressure system over the ocean, Seto said.

But the Catalina eddy is the major cause of the clouds and fog, and as it dissipates in the next couple of days, afternoons in the Valley will warm up, Seto said. Beginning Wednesday, skies will be mostly sunny with no more than 30% cloud cover, he said.

For today the high temperature in Burbank should reach 73, and 75 in Woodland Hills, where the weather is usually warmer than other parts of the Valley. The low temperature will be 57 in Burbank and 51 in Woodland Hills.
