Elderly Woman in Critical Condition After Simi Valley Car Crash

A 75-year-old woman was in critical condition Monday night at Simi Valley Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was not released pending notification of her family, suffered a collapsed lung in the crash and underwent surgery Monday afternoon, hospital and police officials said.

The accident occurred at about 1 p.m., when Enedina Soto, 28, of Encino, allegedly drove her Jeep Cherokee through a red light at 1st and Easy streets in Simi Valley, smashing into the car in which the elderly woman was a passenger.

The Dodge Dynasty was driven by Nancy Spillers, 60, of Moorpark, who was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Easy Street onto northbound 1st Street when Soto, who was southbound, broadsided her car, authorities said.

Spillers’ left rib and clavicle were fractured in the accident. She was in stable condition Monday at Simi Valley Hospital.

Soto was not injured in the crash.

The accident is under investigation, police said.
