A plan to reinstate a shuttle service discontinued in 1993 has won preliminary approval from the City Council, which is spearheading the project.
The Flexi-Shuttle program, which served commuters and elderly residents in Brea, Yorba Linda and Placentia, was halted after problems arose with the transportation company, said Jay Trevino, Brea’s senior planner.
Its reinstatement is being supported by the Brea council, and the other cities are expected to give their approval in June. Funded by a $100,000 grant from the Orange County Transportation Authority and $20,000 from each city, the program is expected to resume operations in July, Trevino said.
Now called the North Orange County Smart Shuttle, the buses will pick up customers from their homes. The shuttle, which will cost $1, will also link commuters to OCTA bus routes and Metrolink stops, Trevino said.
