Fernando Vina’s nose survived Albert Belle’s forearm, but the ill feeling remained from Friday night’s brawl at Milwaukee and even resurfaced when both benches and bullpens emptied in the first inning Saturday when Kenny Lofton shoved Vina after Angel Miranda tried to pick him off after a leadoff double. No punches were thrown, but Miranda later hit Carlos Baerga with a pitch in the third and Jack McDowell hit Vina in the foot in the fourth. Brewer Manager Phil Garner said X-rays showed Vina suffered a bruised but not broken nose from the Belle incident. AL President Gene Budig will review tapes of the incidents. . . . Milwaukee Brewer outfielder Chuck Carr’s reconstructive knee surgery went better than expected and he will begin rehabilitation Monday, the team said. Dr. Ted Gertel, the Brewers’ orthopedist, and Dr. Dennis Sullivan, the team’s medical director, also repaired a torn hamstring tendon, the torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn knee capsule at Sinai Samaritan Medical Center in Milwaukee.
