Jim Bullinger, 3-5 with a 6.94 ERA in 11 starts, was demoted to the bullpen Friday by Chicago Cub Manager Jim Riggleman, who said no replacement has been selected for the starting rotation. . . . Pittsburgh Pirate right-hander Paul Wagner, who suffered a biceps injury in the first inning of Thursday’s game against the Dodgers, was put on the 15-day disabled list. The Pirates recalled right-hander Esteban Loaiza from Calgary of the Pacific Coast League. . . . Left-hander Pete Schourek, Cincinnati’s opening day pitcher, could resume pitching when he is scheduled to come off the disabled list June 15, the Reds said. Schourek has a strained elbow. . . . The Cleveland Indians put infielder Scott Leius on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained muscle in his lower back and recalled first baseman Herbert Perry from Buffalo of the American Assn. . . . The Detroit Tigers acquired pitcher Tom Urbani and infielder Miguel Inzunza from the St. Louis Cardinals for pitcher Brian Maxcy and outfielder Micah Franklin. . . . The Milwaukee Brewers’ inability to secure funding for a new $250-million ballpark means the stadium won’t be ready in time for the team to host the 1999 All-Star game.
