Cable: Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN Inc. unit said it plans to launch a 24-hour sports news network Nov. 1. The network, called ESPNews, will feature scores, analysis, interviews, live news conferences, statistics and breaking stories. ESPN, part of Disney’s Capital Cities/ABC Inc. unit, said the network will be based in Bristol, Conn., where ESPN’s production operation is. The network would compete with a 24-hour sports news network being planned by Turner Broadcasting System Inc. and Time Warner Inc.’s Sports Illustrated magazine. Those two companies said in February that they planned to launch the network, to be called CNN/SI, in December.
