Murphy Expected to Head Marketing
Baseball’s long search for a new marketing executive is expected to culminate today with acting Commissioner Bud Selig’s announcement at a New York news conference that Greg Murphy, 47, a 22-year marketing executive in the baking/food business, has been hired to head an expanded department.
Baseball has basically been without a marketing head since Rick White left as president of Major League Properties, the licensing division, two years ago. Murphy, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, will be in charge of licensing, broadcasting and some facets of public relations.
