Update * Follow-up on the news : Freedman Name Will Still Be Honored

Share

A plan to rename a street in honor of the late philanthropist Leo Freedman won City Council approval this week, ending three months of negotiations between the city and trustees of the Leo Freedman Foundation. The existing Freedman Way will become Disney Way starting in February 1998 as part of the $1-billion Santa Ana Freeway widening project, set to begin in December and to be completed in 2000.

Posting the name Disney Way on freeway exit signs will help motorists find Disneyland more easily, officials said.

To avoid slighting the late philanthropist and trustees of the Leo Freedman Foundation, a charitable organization that supports cultural programs and senior citizen activities, the city will rename a stretch of Clementine Street in Freedman’s honor.
