Council May Adopt Budget on Monday
After two months of workshops and public hearings, the City Council is expected Monday night to adopt a proposed $49.5-million operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The spending plan under consideration provides for no new city jobs or programs, but leaves room for a 6.5% salary increase for firefighters and a 2% salary increase for all other municipal employees.
The budget has been altered slightly by the Ventura council in recent weeks as city leaders attempted to free up money for onetime funding requests, such as subsidies for local libraries.
The council agreed last week to set aside $270,000 to buy new books and maintain the current level of library hours at three branches.
On Monday, the council will work through the remaining portions of the elaborate budget.
The council meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 501 Poli St.
