Lopez, Collins Join Ward in Next Round

Cory Lopez of San Clemente recorded a score of 20.20, the third-highest score of the day, in the third round of the Main Event at the Bud Surf Body Glove competition Saturday at the Oceanside pier.

Lopez will face Richie Collins of Costa Mesa and Chris Ward of San Clemente in today’s competition. Other surfers who advanced include Hawaii’s Larry Rios, North Carolina’s Ben Bourgeois and Ventura’s Keith Malloy.

In the Wahine women’s competition, Laguna Beach’s Alisa Schwarzstein advanced to today’s semifinals. In the longboard, defending champion John Tudor scored the day’s highest score (23.83) to advance to the semifinals.
