Train Kills Man Sitting on Tracks
A 41-year-old Simi Valley man was struck and killed by a train as he sat on the tracks east of 1st Street, police said Wednesday.
Police identified the victim as Eduardo Munoz, who died instantly.
Witnesses told investigators that Munoz had been sitting on the tracks for several minutes late Tuesday, only noticing the westbound train seconds before it struck him.
Train conductor James Cooper told investigators he saw a man on the tracks and blew the train whistle to alert Munoz to the danger. Munoz attempted to move from the tracks, but was too slow, police said.
Friends of the victim were standing nearby at the time of the accident. Several of them confirmed to investigators that Munoz had been drinking for several hours and was intoxicated.
