City Offers Free Swimming Lessons

Share

The city will offer two weeks of free swimming lessons for beginning swimmers, infants, preschoolers and their parents starting Monday and continuing through July 12.

Because registration is limited, those interested in participating should contact the Recreation and Community Services Department at (818) 898-1290 soon, said Gwen Indermill, the city’s recreation supervisor. This is the first year that the city has offered free swim lessons, Indermill noted. The classes will be held Monday through Friday.

Two-week sessions are also available for older children and adults at a cost of $20. In addition, intermediate-level swimmers may sign up for the San Fernando Sharks swim team at a cost of $5 for the entire summer. Some scholarships are available for youths who are unable to afford the fee. Swim team hopefuls should possess basic swimming skills and be able to perform one or more strokes, Indermill said.

The team will compete against others from pools in the San Fernando Valley. Workouts will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with swim meets on Saturdays.

Lessons and swim team workouts will take place in the outdoor pool at Recreation Park, 208 Park Ave., San Fernando.
