Two Orange Coast College students are the first recipients of the Les Miller Award, presented by the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce for scholarship and service to the community.

Miller, a longtime Orange County resident who died recently, was active in dozens of civic organizations and author of a book on the history of Costa Mesa.

The award will be presented annually in his memory.

Sarah Nolan, 20, of Fountain Valley and Armando Bueno, 31, of Riverside were the 1996 recipients.

Nolan, a Fountain Valley High graduate, has been involved in student government at OCC for two years and was a member of the Associated Students Board of Trustees this year.

She has served on nearly a dozen campus committees and was the Associated Students representative to the Academic Senate in her freshman year.

Bueno will be an Associated Students trustee in the fall. Last year he was president of OCC’s natural science club and served as president of the Interclub Council.
