Share

Authorities were searching Wednesday night for two brothers, ages 10 and 5, who were reported missing in the midmorning and then later seen wandering the streets of Huntington Beach.

The apparent runaways, Tuan and Tonycong Nguyen, were last seen by a family member at 11 a.m. when an uncle tending to them at their Midway City home went on an errand, said Lt. Lynn Nehring of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The uncle said the doors were locked when he returned and there was no sign of disturbance, Nehring said. The children’s mother, Hang Dang, returned home at noon and discovered that cash was missing from a hiding place, Nehring said.

A former neighbor to the Nguyen family saw the boys walking about 1 p.m. near Heil Avenue and Beach Boulevard, leading officials to believe they had left on their own, Nehring said. The former neighbor, who later called Hang Dang, was unaware that the boys were missing when she saw them, Nehring said.

Tuan Nguyen is 4 feet, about 50 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing an orange shirt and purple shorts. Tonycong Nguyen is 3 feet, about 35 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a striped shirt and matching shorts. Anyone with information is asked to call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at (714) 834-7370.
