City OKs New Bus Shelters

Share

The number of bus shelters will double in the city, and neither liquor nor tobacco advertisements will be allowed on them, under new contracts signed by the city.

The contracts also allow city officials to review advertisements and to remove any they consider objectionable.

Metro Display Advertising Inc. of Irvine and Eller Media Co. of Orange, which each have 15 shelters in the city, each will build 15 more. They also will pay the city $110 per month per shelter, an increase over the city’s current rate of $78.38 per month, said Donald L. Heinbuch, city administrative services manager.

Heinbuch said the agreement will net the city $77,841 annually.

In other council action, a development proposal to build nine townhomes at 11552 Edinger Ave. was approved.

Residents near the site had voiced concerns at a recent Planning Commission meeting that townhome parking would overflow into their neighborhoods.

Townhome residents will enter the development from Edinger. Because parking is allowed along Edinger, overflow into the neighborhood is expected to be minimal, staff said.
