Lopez Kicks Off Reelection Bid

Oxnard’s Mayor Manuel Lopez kicked off his reelection campaign at Heritage Square on Thursday evening.

The event, which attracted more than 150 people, was intended to garner enthusiasm among volunteers, whom Lopez said are more important to his campaign efforts than fund-raising.

Lopez was born and raised in Oxnard and has been active in city government since 1964. He was elected to the council in 1978 and in 1992 beat Councilman Mike Plisky in a tightly contested race for mayor.

Lopez said his agenda for Oxnard will focus on public safety and economic development.

“We have been devoting a greater percentage of our budget to public safety because that is really what the public wants,” he said.
