Freddy Renteria was driving south in the fast lane, about 50 mph in a 55 mph zone, when for an unknown reason he lost control and drove the vehicle off the right side of the road.

The car rolled down an embankment and came to rest on its top.

Lucia was airlifted to Ventura County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The 11-year-old was taken by ambulance to the medical center, where she was treated for a broken right arm. Neither Freddy nor his mother was injured.
