Shaquille O’Neal will wear No. 34 as a Laker.
His jersey number with Orlando, 32, was not available, of course, because Magic Johnson’s number has been retired. So has No. 33, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s number, which O’Neal wore at Louisiana State.
O’Neal said his stepfather wore No. 34 in the Army. “If you’re watching, this one’s for you, Sarge,” O’Neal said at Thursday’s news conference in Atlanta.
