Banquet to Benefit Inner City Games
Plans for a banquet to raise $800,000 for the Inner City Games, an academic and athletic competition for youths led by actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, were announced this week by dinner organizers Carlton Jenkins and Rick Perkins.
The banquet is set for Sept. 18 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Jenkins is president and CEO of Founders National Bank and Perkins is a marketing director and head of a program encouraging South Los Angeles residents to spend their money in their communities.
“The community is actually involved this time. A celebrity can pick up the phone and do it, but here the community is stepping up,” Jenkins said.
Ticket prices for the event range from $150 to $500. Funds raised through the banquet will go to the Inner City Games Foundation, a nonprofit organization.
This year’s Inner City Games will take place at the Los Angeles Coliseum Oct. 12 to Oct. 22. About 150,000 children from Los Angeles and Orange counties are expected to participate, Jenkins said.
