Judge Named to Preside Over Simpson Civil Trial
Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Hiroshi Fujisaki was named Tuesday to preside over the trial of the civil wrongful death lawsuit against O.J. Simpson.
Fujisaki, 60, is the second judge to be named to the upcoming civil case filed by the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle Goldman against Simpson.
The defense objected to the appointment of Superior Court Judge Alan Haber a day after his appointment was announced last week.
Each side gets one objection, and the plaintiffs’ attorneys have until later this morning to decide whether to go ahead with Fujisaki.
Simpson was acquitted in October of double-murder charges stemming from the June 12, 1994, deaths of his ex-wife and the Mezzaluna waiter. The families sued the former football star, however, and are seeking monetary damages. The civil case is scheduled to go to trial Sept. 9.
