Burbank Police Take Long Drive to Arrest Suspect

A noontime chase that began in Burbank ended with an arrest in an industrial area of Carson, police said Wednesday.

Burbank police responding to reports of a man using an invalid credit card at an Office Depot store, arrived to see Hai Tan Tran, 46, of Long Beach, drive away in an allegedly stolen car, almost hitting several pedestrians as he fled, Police Lt. Larry Koch said.

The chase hit speeds of 35 to 65 mph on the Golden State, Harbor and San Diego freeways and continued on surface streets in Carson, Lt. Duane Dow said.

The chase ended at about 12:40 p.m. at Wilmington Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard when a Burbank officer’s car hit the rear of Tran’s car, causing it to fishtail, Dow said. Tran was taken into custody on suspicion of recklessly evading a peace officer, possession of a stolen credit card, driving a stolen vehicle and forgery, police said.
