Donadoni Leads MetroStar Win

Roberto Donadoni assisted on the first three goals Sunday to lift the New York/New Jersey MetroStars to a 4-1 victory over the San Jose Clash (10-10) at East Rutherford, N.J. before 21,212.

Peter Vermes put the MetroStars (10-10) ahead 2-1 in the 51st minute with a powerful left-footed shot from the top of the penalty area. Vermes’ goal, his first of the season, came off a cross from Donadoni, who had taken a short corner kick from Tab Ramos.

Rob Johnson’s glancing header off Donadoni’s cross put the MetroStars ahead in the 36th minute.

Washington 2, Columbus 0--Steve Rammel scored his 12th goal in the first minute and Mark Simpson made four saves as the United defeated the Crew at Washington before a crowd of 11,178.

Jesse Marsch completed the scoring in the 83rd minute for the United, which has won six in a row at RFK Stadium. Washington improved to 9-11; Columbus is 6-15.
