Apartment Complex Damaged by Fires

A string of suspicious fires in dumpsters and carports early Monday morning caused about $75,000 damage at an apartment complex, fire officials said. There were no injuries.

An investigation is continuing into the fires at the Orangewood Apartments in the 200 block of W. Orangewood Avenue, which started about 3:25 a.m.

Early indications suggest that someone set fire to mattresses and other items in three dumpsters and three carports, Anaheim Fire Department spokeswoman Tabby Cato said.

Investigators found no evidence of accelerants--such as gasoline or kerosene--on the scene, Cato said. It took 36 firefighters about half an hour to extinguish the fires, which also damaged three cars, Cato said.
