And They’ll Have Fun, Fun, Fun . . .

If you get a little teary eyed at the mention of the film “American Graffiti,” you’ll probably love this event. The Goodguys’ West Coast Hot Rod Nationals are revving up at the Pomona Raceway this weekend with nostalgia drag racing and hot rodding. Classes include top fuelers, junior fuelers, blown altered and dragsters. The first 350 cars 1972 and earlier can compete in the muffled drag racing competition.

In 1993, the National Hot Rod Assn. signed a 15-year lease at the Fairplex, making the Pomona Raceway its home. Since then, drag racing activity has experienced a rebirth of sorts in Southern California, with street-legal competitions and junior drag racing, topped off with the Hot Rod Nationals this weekend.

Off the track this weekend, other activities include a hot rod and custom car show and shine, a manufacturers’ midway and performance automotive swap meet, for those do-it-yourselfers in the crowd. Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Saturday, $15 (includes pit pass); Sunday, $18; children 7-12, $5; 6 and younger, free. Parking, $4. (909) 623-3111.
