Arroyo Vista Center Plans Teen Concerts

There will be no moshing on the lawn of Arroyo Vista Recreation Center during the center’s teen concerts. No smoking, either.

But on Aug. 17 and 30, the recreation center’s lawn will otherwise be the closest thing Moorpark has to an alternative nightclub. The Community Services Department is sponsoring two free concerts that will feature local Latin, alternative, rock and punk bands.

The city is seeking demo tapes from groups interested in playing at the shows. Band members do not have to be from Moorpark or the surrounding area, but most of them are, said organizer Dale Sumersille.

“We don’t pay them anything--maybe that’s why,” she said.

Interested musicians should send their tapes to Sumersille at 799 Moorpark Ave., Moorpark 93021 or contact her or Jose Luevano at 531-9100. Those interested in playing the Aug. 17 concert should submit their tapes by today. For the Aug. 30 show, tapes should be received by Aug. 22.
