Alkire Expected to Join Titan Baseball
John Alkire, who has pitched at Tennessee for two seasons, plans to transfer to Cal State Fullerton, according to George Horton, Titan associate head coach.
“He pitched against us in the College World Series in 1995,” Horton said. “We remember him as a freshman there, as well as when he was in high school.”
Alkire was 7-2 as a freshman with a 3.97 earned-run average but dropped to 6-4 last season with a 4.50 ERA.
Horton said the Titans recruited Alkire at San Jose Bellarmine Prep.
“He apparently was going to transfer to Oklahoma State, but when he found out we lost several pitchers to the draft, he decided to come here,” Horton said. “We think he has a high ceiling for improvement, but he wasn’t real consistent last season.”
Horton regards Alkire as a potential starter.
