Flag-Burning Protest

Share

I was disappointed and ashamed when I read the article regarding “Shooting by Police Protested” (July 21). As a Mexican American, native of California, raised in Reseda, and veteran of the U.S. Army, I was insulted by the flood of protesters that felt it was in their belief to burn our flag in front of the West Valley Police Department.

I feel for the parents, relatives and friends of the victim; however, these ignorant individuals should take a minute to look into the history of the United States’ wars and look up all the Hispanic surnames listed, for those who have given their lives for our country and our flag. If they feel the need to burn a flag, they should try burning their own country’s flag and not shame the Hispanic community. My family and I have lost family members and dear friends protecting our precious, respected flag and we are very proud to represent her.
