A Canoga Park man convicted of spousal battery last year was sentenced Tuesday to 210 days in jail after pleading no contest to beating his live-in girlfriend again on two occasions earlier this year, Los Angeles City Atty. James K. Hahn’s office announced.

Sherman Slade, 40, who served 21 days in jail last fall after battering the same woman, was also sentenced to three years summary probation and ordered to participate in a year of domestic violence counseling, Deputy City Atty. Debra Siedorf said.

The two latest attacks occurred April 1 and May 15 in the couple’s home. In the earlier incident, Slade was arguing with another man when he suddenly lashed out at the woman, inflicting one-inch cuts on her forehead and knee. Slade fled before Los Angeles police officers arrived.

On May 15, Slade returned home at 3:30 a.m. and attacked the woman again after finding that there was no beer in the house, Siedorf said. The victim suffered a 3 1/2-inch scratch on her neck and a swollen hand.
