SANTA BARBARA--An after-hours exploration of nature is offered 6:30-9:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. “The Great Garden Nature Night” includes a light supper, a walk with botanists and an astronomer-led look at the starsand planets through telescopes. $20 per person; $50 per family ($15 and $35 for garden members). WALNUT CREEK--Another nature program to the north focuses on native California vipers. “Rattlers in Our Midst,” 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 24, offers activities, demonstrations and talks about rattlesnakes and their relatives.
