Terry Kirby finally was traded from running back-rich Miami to the 49ers for a 1997 high draft pick.

The trade was reportedly agreed to on Saturday but was not announced until Monday.

With the acquisition, Johnny Johnson is expected to be cut by the 49ers, possibly even today. Johnson was injured the first day of drills and hasn’t practiced since.

On July 22, Potts, an unsigned veteran who is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery, was suspended for four games without pay. It was increased to a full 16-game season after a review by NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

Neither player suffered ligament damage. “We’re looking at a minimum of two weeks on both of them, with the possibility of [Davis] going as long as four weeks,” Coach Bobby Ross said. Both were hurt in Saturday night’s 32-10 exhibition victory over Arizona. . . .
