Boosters Are Raising Funds for New Pool

Oxnard boosters are planning a splashy dinner event Saturday to help raise money to build an Olympic-sized pool at the new Oxnard High School.

The tri-tip and chicken barbecue fund-raiser is set for 3 to 8 p.m. on the grounds of the old St. John’s Hospital at F and Doris streets.

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Ventura County and the Oxnard High School Aquatics Foundation are expecting more than 300 people to attend the dinner, which will also feature mariachi music and other entertainment.

Tickets are $40 per person and $75 per couple. All proceeds will go toward the $1.2 million needed to build the 50-meter by 25-yard pool at the Gonzales Road campus.

The pool would be the only true Olympic-sized pool in Ventura County. The pool at Ventura College is slightly smaller in some places.

“I think it is really important for all the residents of the county to have an Olympic-sized pool,” said Norma Morales, Hispanic chamber president. “It will allow our students to keep practicing for the Olympics.”
