Man Charged in South-Central Killing Rampage, Rape, Robbery

Prosecutors charged a 23-year-old Los Angeles man with murder in a July killing rampage in South-Central Los Angeles that left three people dead.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Kevin McCormick charged Kelvin Rondell Banks with three counts of murder, special circumstance allegations of murder during a robbery and murder during a burglary, and multiple murder.

Banks also was charged Thursday with two counts of robbery, one count of rape and one count of burglary. He was jailed without bail.

The South-Central Los Angeles resident is accused in the fatal shooting of a 50-year-old customer using an automated teller machine July 26, killing a 69-year-old man July 1, and raping a woman in the victim’s home. The third killing was the death of a man whose burning body was found in a car in South-Central on July 12.
